Iowa City Man Sentenced on Federal Charges For Attempted Enticement Of a Minor
DAVENPORT, IA - On January 6, 2012, Terry Marshall Campie, age 55, of Iowa City, Iowa, was sentenced to 120 months of imprisonment for one count of Attempted Enticement of a Minor to Engage in Illicit Sexual Activities, announced United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt. United States District Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered Campie to serve a term of supervised release of 10 years following his incarceration and pay an assessment of $100 to Crime Victims Fund.
The case began during an online undercover investigation when a detective with the Clinton County, Iowa, Sheriff’s Office, as part of his duties with the Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, logged on to a Yahoo! chat room. There, in his undercover capacity as a 14-year-old girl from Clinton, Iowa, the deputy met Campie. At Campie’s initiative, the chats quickly became sexual in nature. Eventually, Campie proposed meeting the girl for the purpose of engaging in sexual relations. Campie was arrested on April 30, 2010, when he arrived at the pre-arranged meeting location.
This investigation was conducted by the Clinton County, Iowa, Sheriff’s Office, the Clinton, Iowa, Police Department, the DeWitt, Iowa, Police Department, the Iowa City, Iowa, Police Department, and the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
